Our Volunteers: The Heart of Hospice
Volunteer ApplicationIn a fast-paced world, it is easy to get caught in the hustle and bustle of life. When we take the time to stop and assess our own lives, we often ask: what is it that truly matters? Have I made a difference?
“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” — 1 Peter 4:10
Cypress Basin Hospice invites you to serve one another through our Volunteer Services Program. Our volunteer opportunities range from socializing with our patients and their families, administrative projects, assisting with our flower angel or veteran programs, and working at our thrift store. Whether you have an hour a month or several hours a week to give, we have a volunteer opportunity tailored to fit your schedule.
Our volunteers are the heart of Cypress Basin Hospice. Each year, our volunteers provide over 4,000 hours of service, equivalent to over $100,000 in saved payroll. That saved income allows Cypress Basin Hospice to further our mission of being able to assist patients with no insurance coverage.

Companion Volunteer
Companion volunteers are members of our patient’s local community. This relationship provides a feeling of normalcy for patients and their families. Volunteers often connect with patients on a deep personal level, which provides the hospice care team with valuable insights concerning the overall impact of the level of comfort and care that is provided.
Tuck In Program
Cypress Basin Hospice recently implemented our new “Tuck-In Program”. This program is designed to ensure that each of our patients and families receive the supplies and medications needed on weekends. Once a week, our trained hospice volunteers call each family member or caregiver. The volunteer checks on supplies and medication, pain levels and asks if there are any concerns. CBH staff are able to address any concerns before the upcoming weekend.
Special Events
Cypress Basin Hospice hosts several fundraising events each year including the annual Hospice Ball, a cornhole tournament, and a golf tournament. Each of these events raise funds to support the services we offer.
Life Legacy Program
Volunteers who have a passion for telling a story enjoy reminiscing with our patients and their families. These volunteers conduct video interviews with patients and edit them into a short movie that will be enjoyed by family members for generations to come.
Camp Brave Heart
Camp Brave Heart is a camp for children, ages 6-12, who have experienced the death of a loved one. Volunteers assist the children explore and share their feelings through activities such as a memory project, games and entertainment, and a memorial service and celebration.
Flower Angel
Cypress Basin Hospice partners with local florists who generously donate flowers which volunteers arrange in vases and deliver to patients and long-term care facilities in our service area.
Thrift Store
Cypress Basin Hospice operates a successful thrift store in Mt. Pleasant that offer gently used clothing, household items, furniture, appliances and electronics, books, and more. Thrift Store volunteers assist with sorting donated items, pricing and display design. Proceeds from the thrift store are used to help fund the many programs and services we offer.
Community Outreach
Cypress Basin Hospice’s motto of “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” is evident in their community outreach efforts. Volunteers honor our commitment to the community by baking goodies and writing cards of encouragement for local long-term care facility residents, manning information booths at health fairs and community festivals, and more.
