Hospice. It’s a scary word isn’t it?
But it doesn’t have to be. What if I told you there is a team of skilled, qualified individuals that want to care for you and your loved ones in your time of need. A team that will provide pain management, symptom control, psychosocial support, and spiritual care when a cure is not possible. A team that works together to support you when facing a terminal illness and treats you with the upmost respect throughout your journey allowing you to face the end of life with dignity. That is hospice, and that is what the team at Cypress Basin Hospice has been providing to the families of Northeast Texas for over 30 years.
November is National Hospice and Palliative Care Month. Throughout the year, but especially in November, Cypress Basin Hospice focuses on the importance of living in the face of a terminal illness. Our mission and goal at Cypress Basin Hospice is to honor life by providing comfort, care, and compassion. Comfort for your symptoms, care for you and your family, and compassion during the most sacred moments of a person’s life.
Cypress Basin Hospice was founded in 1986 by a group of civic minded individuals who saw a need in their community care for the terminally ill. Originating in Mount Pleasant, Cypress Basin Hospice has grown to serve 16 counties in Northeast Texas ranging as far north as Lamar County, east to Bowie County, south to Upshur County, and west to Hunt County. Staying true to our original calling and mission of being “neighbors helping neighbors”, Cypress Basin Hospice remains the only not-for-profit hospice in Northeast Texas.
Cypress Basin Hospice cares for all hospice appropriate patients regardless of their ability to pay. Through our Community Care Patient Program, patients that do not qualify for Medicare or Medicaid, but qualify for charitable care, will receive the same medications, supplies, equipment, and clinical support as would a patient with Medicare or Medicaid. Cypress Basin Hospice is able to provide this program through the support of community fundraisers, community donations, and memorial donations.
In 2019, Cypress Basin Hospice provided $135,000 in charitable care. Over the last 3 years at Cypress Basin Hospice, the average age of a patient who received charitable care was 60 years old. In 2019, the average age dropped to 58 years old. We are following our calling and mission of taking care of all of our brothers and sisters in need, and we invite you to partner with us in continuing to provide care to those who need comfort, care, and compassionate support.
